To create a balanced, proportionate look, high-quality rhinoplasty surgeons in Toronto enhance, rather than ignore the original structure of the nose. This Toronto-area patient is a great example of this principle because while she has a very strong nasal structure to start with, optimal results would retain some of that definition, rather than trying to create a scooped or overly straight nose shape that would imbalance the rest of her face. When she came into the office, this patient explained that she did not like the bump on her nasal bridge, and felt that her nose looked long and droopy. After discussing her goals and explaining the benefits of different procedure options Dr. Rival and the patient agreed on an external-approach rhinoplasty, which allows the surgeon greater precision in extensive reduction procedures. In this procedure Dr. Rival reduced the side of the hump and removed a small amount of excess tissue from the nose tip to reduce the nose's projection. He also adjusted the position of the tip in order to improve the angle between the lips and the nose. In the process, he preserved the patient's naturally strong nasal structure by allowing retaining some of the original angle of the nasal bridge. He also gave a slightly wider, rounder shape to the nostrils to balance out the shorter nose tip and further de-emphasize the length of the nose. The result is a more elegant-looking nose that looks very natural and in proportion with the patient's facial structure. Although the patient's rhinoplasty procedure in Toronto corrected a number of characteristics, the view from below shows that her small external-approach scar is healing well, and is hardly visible at all.
