When watching the red-carpet coverage for an award show like the Oscars, it’s easy to focus on how beautiful these stars are, without thinking about how they got there. Many celebrities stick to an intense fitness and beauty routine to achieve their flawless skin, perfect teeth, and fit, toned body. However, there are some things that just can’t be done by diet, exercise, and habits alone.
Changing the shape of the nose is a common plastic surgery procedure formally known as a rhinoplasty. In the past, many celebrity nose jobs have been hidden from the public, and many celebs refuse to confirm that they occurred. However, many up-and-coming celebrities like Cardi B and Kaley Cuoco are changing attitudes in Hollywood by being extremely open about their plastic surgery procedures. Hopefully, this attitude of openness and body positivity will continue!
Today, we’re taking a look at which 10 Oscar nominees are confirmed or rumoured to have gotten nose jobs.
Scarlett Johansson
Scarlett Johansson has become one of the biggest stars in Hollywood over the past few years, and at the 2020 Oscars, she was nominated for two awards. One was for Best Actress in the Netflix film Marriage Story, and the other was a Best Supporting nod for her work in Taika Waititi’s Jojo Rabbit. She’s been in the public eye for years since she started acting at age 9.
While some surgeons believe she had a rhinoplasty around 2000-2001, others think that her good looks are just lucky genetics.
Leonardo DiCaprio
Leonardo DiCaprio has been a Hollywood favourite ever since his turn as Jack in Titanic. This year, he was nominated for his work on Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
There’s no evidence to suggest that he has ever had a nose job, but apparently he is well-known in plastic surgeon’s offices. That’s because many men undergoing plastic surgery have brought in photos of him as an example of what they would like their cheeks to look like.
Saoirse Ronan
Irish actress Saoirse Ronan was nominated for an Oscar this year for her portrayal of Jo March in Greta Gerwig’s sadly overlooked Little Women. Her energetic and moving work in the film garnered her a 3rd Oscar nomination, but so far, she has not won once.
Although some people have speculated that Saoirse has had a nose job, there’s been no evidence to suggest that. Since she’s been in the spotlight since she was young, it’s likely that her face has simply changed as she’s grown up.
Charlize Theron
It’s hard not to speculate about Charlize Theron’s face since she was nominated for her work as Megyn Kelly in her self-produced movie Bombshell. The prosthetics used to transform her face were responsible for the film winning Best Makeup and Hairstyling at this year’s Oscars, and have led to continued discussions about Theron’s own face.
Some have speculated that she has had a nose job to slim the profile of her nose and create a more delicate shape.
Renee Zellweger
After several years in the intensity of the Hollywood media spotlight, Renee Zellweger took a step back in 2010, disappearing from movies and TV for four years. When she returned, many people immediately began to speculate that she had undergone plastic surgery to refine and reshape her face, including her nose.
Despite the fact that she does look quite different, she insists that she has not had any plastic surgery. Instead, she attributes her new look to being in her 40s.
Tom Hanks
Tom Hanks has a reputation for losing himself in roles, wearing all sorts of prosthetics and hairpieces to get into his character. This aptitude for transformation has even led people to speculate that he’s gotten plastic surgery to change the shape of his nose, especially after an event in 2018 when the National Enquirer ran a story insisting that his nose has somehow gotten larger.
A rep for Hanks confirmed that the story was “totally false.”
Al Pacino
At the 2020 Oscars, Al Pacino was nominated for his role in Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman, where he played both the older and younger versions of his character.
Digital de-aging in movies has gotten better than ever and has led some people to examine Pacino’s real face for signs of de-aging through plastic surgery. However, it’s unlikely that he’s gotten any alterations as noticeable as a nose job.
Brad Pitt
Brad Pitt is widely known as one of our generation’s most beautiful Hollywood actors. He’s been a sex symbol ever since he appeared as a cowboy hitchhiker in Thelma & Louise, and he even has a planet named after him.
While some people believe he had plastic surgery to pin back his ears so they weren’t as prominent, there’s been no evidence to suggest he’s ever had a nose job.
Laura Dern
Laura Dern was one of the few actors at this year’s Oscars to appear in multiple award-winning movies, including Little Women and Marriage Story. She scooped up the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for Marriage Story and gave an emotional speech thanking her parents- Hollywood legends Bruce Dern and Diane Ladd.
Dern is passionate about good skincare and regularly touts her facials and skincare regime as the reason she’s aging so well. While some plastic surgeons have speculated that she’s gotten a nose job, she insists it’s only genetics.
Margot Robbie
Unlike her costars in Bombshell, Margot Robbie didn’t need any prosthetics to play Kayla Pospisil, a character invented for the film. However, many plastic surgeons do believe that Robbie did have plastic surgery at some point, creating a thinner and sharper nose.
