There’s no doubt that you have access to a wealth of options when selecting the best rhinoplasty surgeon in the Toronto area. As you comb through your options, make sure you’re looking for the right information so you can make an informed choice. Our tips can help you move through your search with confidence and choose a doctor who is likely to give you the results you want and the experience you deserve.
Start With Skills
Most physicians make their qualifications plainly known, whether through their websites or other online resources. You should confirm that the surgeon has specific training and education relevant to the procedure you are seeking. Begin by looking for a surgeon who is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Then, dive deeper. What specific field did the surgeon train in? For example, I’m a fellow in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, which means I’ve completed extensive training in this complex area of the body. I’m also certified by both the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Board of Otolaryngology. These certifications indicate that I’ve demonstrated measurable skills and knowledge in these very specific fields.
View Their Handiwork
Before-and-after photos tell an important story beyond a doctor’s qualifications and certifications. When you look at photos of a surgeon’s previous cases—whether on his or her website or in the office—you can get a great sense of the surgeon’s skills and how they translate to real bodies. These photos also demonstrate the surgeon’s personal aesthetic. For example, does he or she tend to create dramatic results that turn heads? Or does the surgeon stick to more subtle results that complement unique faces? Finding a doctor whose vision matches yours is a great first step. Pay special attention to “before” photos that look like your nose. The accompanying “after” photo can show you what’s possible.
Consider Your Consultation
Ready to book your consultation? Great! After this important first meeting, check in with yourself to determine how it left you feeling. Ask yourself the following questions:
- Did your surgeon listen to and thoroughly answer your questions? The consultation is a 2-way street. If you felt like your surgeon was glossing over your questions and concerns in an effort to “sell” the procedure to you, keep searching. You should feel like the surgeon is your partner, and you should feel empowered to ask more questions and work together.
- Did the exam feel complete and unhurried? Rhinoplasty is a technically complex procedure that requires careful measurements both before and during the procedure. Your surgeon should spend plenty of time evaluating your nose and discussing your desired results, not giving you a quick once-over.
- Did you feel comfortable? This is perhaps the most important question of all. It’s important that you feel comfortable, safe, and at ease with your surgeon. Like any relationship, you won’t get far if you feel like you don’t “click.” A good rapport is the foundation of a great experience.
